The Ultimate Link Checker – Xenu Link Sleuth

February 8th, 2008 in Web Tools

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had a difficult time finding a decent link checker program for finding broken links. Just recently a co-worker recommended Xenu Link Sleuth and it has worked great! Check it out!

The biggest problem is that the link checker does not have an option to ignore case in the links it checks. Since IIS on Windows is case-insensitive, this will list every broken link as many times as your web editors have put it in differently on the webpages. Example: http:google.com/badLink.htm and http://google.com/badlink.htm these will show up as TWO diffeent bad links even though it is just one bad link being pointed to on different pages. I asked the author to put in an option for a case-insensitive search but he has no time to do that, so i manually edit every report now. :( Other than that I have zero complaints!
